These expectations are not intended to replace or override suppliers’ own codes of conduct or applicable laws, nor do they amend existing contractual obligations. At a minimum, CPM expects all suppliers to comply with relevant laws and regulations and to operate in a manner consistent with CPM’s ethical, social, and environmental commitments.
CPM is committed to operating sustainably across all aspects of its business and supply chain, and we expect our suppliers to uphold the same principles. Suppliers to CPM are expected to conduct their activities with environmental and social responsibility, and to pursue continuous improvement, innovation, and quality excellence in the products and services they deliver. All suppliers are required to act in accordance with the standards set out in this Code.
Scope
This Code applies to all individuals working at every level across CPM and its subsidiaries, including directors, officers, senior managers, employees (whether permanent, fixed-term, or temporary), contractors, trainees, agency staff, casual workers, and any other individuals performing work for or on behalf of CPM anywhere in the world. If CPM has an investment in an entity over which it does not exercise effective control, it shall use its influence to encourage the entity to adopt standards that are substantially equivalent to those set out in this Code.
Environmental
This policy sets out our commitment to respect and protect the environment, and we expect and encourage our suppliers to follow this commitment, in compliance with the applicable international, national, and local environmental legislation relating to energy use, waste, emissions, water and resource consumption and management.
For all of our suppliers, we have minimum standards in the following environmental areas:
1. Energy Use
CPM will promote energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy across its own operations and, where feasible, within the activities of its suppliers. We encourage collaboration and innovation to support the transition to a lower-carbon value chain.
2. Climate Change
CPM recognizes the significant risks that climate change poses to its operations, subsidiaries, and global supply chains. We expect our suppliers to demonstrate a commitment to minimize climate impact across their operations and sourcing practices.
3. Water Stewardship
As a Group, CPM recognizes the importance of promoting responsible water stewardship across its operations and supply chains. We recognize the importance of conserving water resources and understand that our activities, and those of our suppliers, may involve water-intensive processes or be located in water-stressed regions.
4. Environmental Issues
Environmental issues arise from human activities that cause harm to the natural environment and can have lasting consequences for ecosystems, communities, and the health of the planet. CPM expects its suppliers to seek to prevent and mitigate environmental impacts such as land and water pollution, air emissions, deforestation, land degradation, and the depletion of natural resources.
5. Biodiversity
CPM expects its suppliers to implement measures to prevent harm to local biodiversity and to ensure that their operations and business activities do not contribute to deforestation wherever possible.
6. Waste and Resource Use
We encourage our suppliers to manage resources such as metals and plastics responsibly and work to reduce waste to landfill through recycling, recovery and other waste reduction initiatives. Suppliers are also expected to minimize unnecessary packaging and, where feasible, implement take-back or re-use systems to support circular economy principles.
7. Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining
CPM respects the right of workers to freely associate, to join or not join trade unions, and to engage in collective bargaining in accordance with local laws and international standards. We expect our suppliers to uphold the same principles and to ensure that workers are able to communicate openly with management regarding working conditions without fear of harassment, intimidation, or reprisal. Where the right to freedom of association or collective bargaining is restricted by law, suppliers should allow alternative, lawful means for employees to engage in dialogue and representation.
Social
CPM is committed to promoting diversity, fostering wellbeing, and supporting the skills development of employees and the communities in which we operate. As a Group, CPM is committed to respecting human rights in accordance with internationally recognized principles, including the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the International Bill of Human Rights, and the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. We expect our suppliers to respect and uphold all labor and human rights throughout their value chains, at a minimum in line with the standards set out in these international instruments.
We require that our suppliers meet the following standards:
1. Health and Safety
CPM works to understand and comply with applicable national and international health and safety laws and regulations, and is committed to continuously reducing health and safety risks and improving working condition across its operations. We promote the use of certified health and safety management systems and the adoption of best practices to safeguard all employees and contractors. CPM expects its suppliers to provide safe and healthy working environments, to identify and manage health and safety risks within their activities, and to take proactive measures to prevent workplace accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses.
Where suppliers provide accommodation or facilities for workers, CPM expects these to be safe, clean, and meet or exceed applicable local standards. Living conditions should include access to potable water, adequate sanitation, and reasonable privacy, space, and security.
2. Minimum Living Wage
All terms of employment, including but not limited to wages, benefits, and working hours, must at a minimum comply with local laws and regulations. All employees should be paid fairly and on time in accordance with their agreed terms of employment. CPM also expects its suppliers to pay any UK based employees at least the National Living Wage.
3. Diversity, Inclusion and Non-Discrimination
CPM expects its suppliers to eliminate all forms of illegal or unfair discrimination in recruitment, compensation, training, and employment practices, including discrimination based on gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, color, religion, social background, family responsibilities, sexual orientation, age, or disability. No worker should be subjected to abuse, corporal punishment, or any form of physical, sexual, or verbal harassment. Suppliers are also encouraged to promote diversity and inclusion and to foster a respectful workplace that provides equal opportunities for all.
4. Maximum Working Hours
We expect our suppliers to respect national legislation and industry referenced standards on maximum working hours.
5. Child Labor and Modern Slavery – including elimination of trafficked, forced, bonded labor
CPM expects its suppliers to maintain robust practices that prohibit the use of child labor and any form of forced, bonded, or trafficked labor. Suppliers should have effective mechanisms in place to identify, assess, and address risks related to modern slavery and human trafficking within their operations and supply chains.
6. Consideration of suppliers’ social performance during procurement
For new and existing suppliers, CPM monitors any companies in our supply chain that present a high risk of human rights abuses.
7. Anti-bribery and corruption
CPM expects our suppliers to maintain practices that ensure the prevention of bribery and corruption, and the mechanisms to detect and report any instances of bribery or corruption.
Governance
This policy forms part of our group compliance policies, which are within the overall responsibility of CPM Executive Team. The executive team of each CPM business unit holds responsibility for ensuring effective transmission of this policy throughout the business, alongside relevant guidance and training and appropriate safeguards in order to ensure compliance with this policy.
