At CPM, safety is more than a priority, it’s our core value: Putting People First. That’s why we’re introducing Safety by Design, an initiative that integrates safety awareness into everything we do, while encouraging participation at all levels.

Employee Photo Contest!

To kick things off, we’re launching a company-wide photo contest for you to demonstrate your commitment to safety.

HOW IT WORKS

Over the span of seven weeks, including a one-week pause for Chinese New Year, we’re inviting employees to submit photos that represent one of CPM’s Six Pillars of Safety (more on that below), capturing how you and your coworkers play a crucial role in keeping our workplace safe. We’ll upload your photos in the gallery below, so you can get inspired by your peers. We can’t wait to see how you stay safe!

CPM’s Six Pillars Of Safety

Identify, Analyze & Control

Identify and analyze hazards associated with your job and take action to control or avoid the hazards. This includes ensuring proper and safe lifting; using proper tools; addressing potential slips, trips, and falls; and practicing ‘lock out, tag out’ procedures. If you identify something unsafe, take the initiative to fix it and highlight the corrective action to your team.

Comfort Zone

Work within your ergonomic comfort zone by maintaining the proper posture and positioning to minimize physical strain while interacting within your work environment. Whether you spend your day operating machinery or sitting behind a desk, report discomfort or signs of ergonomic issues promptly to maximize your well-being and organizational performance.

Guard Up

Always use the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) based on your role and its potential hazards. Ensure PPE is correctly used and maintained, and hold others accountable for wearing their required PPE, too.

Road Rules

When work takes you on the road, take your safety mindset with you. Conduct pre-work trip research to gather up-to-date advice and information about the areas you are traveling to and within. Be aware of any health-related considerations ahead of your trip including the availability of healthcare and medical support. When visiting customers or other facilities, ensure you are aware of and adhering to their safety requirements. If you’re renting a vehicle, stay alert and in control when you’re behind the wheel.

Clean Sweep

Good housekeeping is an important element of safety. Accidents or injuries are more likely to occur when objects are out of place. By cleaning up as you go, you can keep your work environment orderly and free of hazards for yourself and your team members.

Level Up

Complete all required training, certification and compliance courses to ensure you understand how to do your job correctly. Training topics could range from chemical storage procedures, proper forklift parking protocols, safety labeling standards, and more – all of which provide critical knowledge to help keep yourself and others safe.

Week 1 — Identify, Analyze & Control

Week 2 — Comfort Zone​

Having a standing desk assists with better posture and reduces my risk for musculoskeletal issues that come with prolonged sitting. Utilizing a treadmill at the same time allows me to do physical activity while working.

Week 3 — Guard Up

When I go out to the manufacturing area to seek information, I make sure to wear the appropriate PPE. Here, I am wearing a hard hat, earmuffs, safety glasses and steel toe boots. This PPE helps to ensure my safety in areas where heavy machinery is being operated.

Week 5 — Clean Sweep

This picture was taken at a refinery plant, in the U.S. and it shows the commitment of the local people with the housekeeping and, consequently with safety at the workplace. It needs to be highlighted that it happened during the plant start-up day, after annual maintenance shutdown. This is a clear example that safety is not just a slogan. It’s a way of work and life.

Tools are placed in an orderly manner for easy access and use.

Cleaning is one of our Safety Pillars that depends on Teams’ effort to maintain it.
